Invergarry Hotel  ¨Relax, You’re in the Highlands¨

We couldn’t be better placed! For starters, this view below of Ben Nevis is 15mins from the hotel by car (taken at the Spean Commando Memorial, right)

The memorial, placed in this spectacular spot in 1952, commemorates the many elite forces troops who used this area as their training ground in WWII.

The views from the memorial take in Ben Nevis and surrounding glens (plenty of parking) and the journey there from our hotel takes you along the shores of Loch Lochy (below)

Loch Ness is 5mins away by car (through the very pretty Fort Augustus), and you must visit Urquhart Castle (below) while here - set on a promontory on the Loch, and important strategically since the mid 13th century. A wonderful terrace for refreshments and meals is also on the site (below)

You must visit Plockton (below) on the west coast, the road right outside the hotel takes you along one and quarter hour drive through the most stunning scenery in Scotland to this beautiful village (‘Hamish Macbeth’ was filmed here). Sea trips to view otters & seals leave from here, the view is breathtaking and there are numerous cafes and restaurants with great seafood.

Also, just a pleasant drive along the road right outside the hotel, is the famous Eilean Donan castle (below) - well worth a visit and in a stunning spot on the road out to the isles (featured in the film ‘Highlander’)

Our location is central to everything you’ll want to see and do in the Highlands. Some 45 minutes' drive south from Invergarry lies Fort William. Here you will find a number of things to do, including a trip up the gondola at Nevis Range - always a popular place to visit, whether you are visiting for the ski-ing in winter, or for the walking and views in the summer.

Alternatively, why not visit the fascinating Treasures of the Earth exhibition at Corpach just outside Fort William.

Also just outside Fort William is the famous Neptune's Staircase, a magnificent set of seven locks at the end of the Caledonian Canal, which cuts through the Great Glen from Inverness via Invergarry to Fort William and out into Loch Linnhe

Walks in the area
Where do we start ? This area has hundreds of walks and climbs for all abilities. You can start with a gentle stroll along the banks of the River Garry from the hotel (pictures below)

A short drive from Fort Augustus along the quieter south side of Loch Ness there is the beautiful Falls of Foyers

Invergarry Castle
Invergarry Castle was built by the MacDonnells of Glengarry after raids by the Mackenzies in 1602. The castle is a very large 17th century tower, which has a large main block with 5 floors and a round staircase tower that rises to six stories.

Wonderful Coffee in Fort William ! - www.fired-art.co.uk

A lovely coffee shop in Fort William for a wee warm up and hot snack or homemade cake.
Most cafe's are a bit plastic in Fort William, however this place is a real find with a friendly, warm reception from Clare and Simon along with their friendly staff. In the Cafe be sure to take your kids as you can make fired art ! - paint your own crockery and have the art work fired over a coffee ready to take home. Great Fun !

Also Simon sells great prints and painting and can also frame your own pictures on request - very professional and highly recommended - see his work in the Hotel. A genuinly nice place to visit .
